F.A.Q.
We know… it’s all Greek, er Latin!

How often do I water my plants?
New plants must be watered in accordance with the size of their root system. Visualize soaking the entire area that was the container, or the entire rootball. Plan to do this 2-3 time per week for the first 3-4 months.
Do I leave the wire basket on my plant?
Yes! We advise leaving the burlap and wire basket on your new plants. Over time, these will deteriorate and expose your plant’s root system to the surrounding soil. This is not harmful to the plant, nor is it harmful to the surrounding soil. Any twine around the trunk or plastic strapping on the root-ball will need to be cut as these items can be harmful to the longevity of your plant.
How big do I dig my hole?
Shrubs require a hole slightly larger than their pot or ball size. For trees, we recommend a hole that is roughly 12” wider than the ball width, and the depth to match that of the ball height. Plants want to be at ground level, or slightly raised, for the best drainage. Too low or too high can impact root stability.
When should I trim my plants?
Trimming is a very important part of maintaining your landscaping, and often a task that is overdone or underdone. Almost every plant will need some type of trimming in its lifetime. Natural growing trees rarely need a trim every year, where grafted trees tend to need semi-annual haircuts, to maintain shape and growth patterns. Most shrubs benefit from, if not require, a trim at least once a year. Trim times vary from plant to plant, and should always be confirmed beforehand. Check out our pruning guide [click HERE to get it] for the best times to trim. Selective pruning (not sheering) will greatly increase your pruning success. Remember these main ideas: Head-height, Wind Lean, Doubles, Crossers, & Thinning.
What 'planting zone' are we?
Michigan is considered a Zone 4-6a.
